Kathy Woodward Ruth Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was given in memory of Kathy Woodward Ruth by her husband, Brian Ruth in 2021. Thoughtfulness, generosity, and love of her hometown led Kathie to direct a portion of her estate to the GHSAA general scholarship fund. True to her humble nature, she did so without any further expectations. In collaboration with GHSAA on an appropriate use of Kathie’s bequest, her family is pleased to establish a named scholarship in her memory.  

It is our intention to grow the scholarship's value over time so it can benefit future Groveton graduates in perpetuity. As Kathie's sister Neila put it, “Encouraging and assisting young men and women to further their education and reach for their dreams is a noteworthy legacy.” It would also seem to be a fitting gesture of gratitude to a community that has played such an important role in our lives. Kathie would have approved for both reasons.” 

Kathy was a GHS graduate of the Class of 1975.
